Luke did spot her as he was walking around, seeing where he could help. He was curious about the engineering and mechanical areas, the Skywalker knack driving him to look and learn. It made him wish Jaina were here; she'd probably be able to fix half the stuff on her own if she had to.

He could tell the female he came across was of mixed species; she seemed humanoid, but had a slightly different appearance and Force presence. Being familiar with various races meant he didn't give it much of a thought, though. Humans seemed to be able to breed with quite a few 'near human' species even after so much divergence over the millennia.

Luke initially didn't say much because she was sleeping, but she'd probably see him if she woke up.
