Welcome to the Illyria!

Stardate 58561.8: Day One

Now that you've all got your room assignments and communicators, it's time to explore this ship. Please check out the deck plans to figure out where you're going. You can read about some of the existing crew members you might run into here.

Even those of you who may feel right at home on a spaceship will find that the Illyria is definitely a bit... different. Mostly because she's kind of a wreck right now. Whatever it was that threw the ship all the way out here to wherever we are, it really did a number on the ship itself. There's a lot of damaged areas, and several of the ship's systems have been compromised. You'll find that the replicators don't always work right (I asked for hasperat and I got pok tar!?), the turbolifts are unusually persnickety (I said bridge, not engineering!), and the environmental controls in your quarters may not do as they're told (why is it snowing in Room 4J?). Several corridors are blocked by debris, and more often than not the lights are flickering if they're on at all.

So what will you do? Help clean up the mess in the hallways? Try some bizarre alien food in the mess hall? Try and infiltrate restricted areas to get a peek at the ship's systems? Feel free to make your own top level comment, and treat this as a big mingle. Get to know your new crewmates, explore your new home, make friends or enemies, and whatever you do, don't try the gagh. If you need the captain or the first officer, please let a mod know, but try and stick to threading with your fellow new recruits!

(Don't worry about the entry tags for the moment, they will be added shortly. Before we throw ourselves into missions on alien planets, we wanted everyone to have a chance to get to know one another, so please use this opening log as an opportunity to kick off some CR with crewmates and bunk buddies, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask a mod!)

Hallway - Lights

Eames is walking down the hallway back to his quarters, his belly full. He feels like he's starting to get used to this, and even if he weren't, he'd be pretending he was. The lights go off with zero warning.

"Hello?"

He walks along as best as he can before-

"Oof. I do believe that's my stomach you just elbowed." Never mind that it's just as much his fault.

Hallway outside Room 4E - Environmental controls

It's hot as hell in this hallway. The temp controls must be going crazy, because it feels like a sauna. Or at least that's what Eames is using it as. He's in shorts and no shirt, spread out in a chair with his feet propped up on another. A book is in his hands, and he'd be wearing sunglasses if he'd brought some, just to complete the look. He's also blocking the way, so...

The Doctor had been excitedly exploring the ship on his own. He wasn't entirely familiar with the nature of the ship, such as where he was built, who built it, and who laid claim to it, which was something he found interesting. Over 900 years old and there was always something he was learning.

Worse yet, it was obvious this ship was attacked. It was a mess in some areas, and not everything worked. The Doctor couldn't even get his sonic screwdriver to properly work, making everything that much more frustrating.

To end the day, though he wasn't tired and slept very little, the Doctor made his way back to his assigned room, only to pause and see a face peering at him.

"Oh. Hello there! Who might you be?" His voice was light with little hesitation as he stepped forward into the room with bounding confidence that Axel might find annoying.

The Doctor had been moving quickly through the coordinators, searching for answers to this place. It was unfamiliar to him and he didn't recognize any of the parts or clues as to whose it was. One thing he had figured out, which didn't take much, was it was obviously abandoned for a while and a good chance the crew was in distress.

He was in the middle of examining some debris when the lights flickered and turned off, surrounding him in darkness. As he groped the wall, he collided with someone -- or at least his elbow did.

"Sorry 'bout that!" He speaks in a light tone, searching his pockets for something helpful, but only managing to find his sonic screwdriver. Maybe he could reroute some wires to return things to this section, at least.

"Mm, a bit dark innit? I'll see if I can fix that."

Luke was moving around very cautiously through the corridors, and he wasn't the only one. The Doctor was equally confused and cautious as he did the same before ending in the same hallway as the other man.

"Hello there!" The Doctor greeted before wondering if he had startled the other man. Luke certainly appeared lost in thought, which hadn't surprised the Doctor as he too was in search of some answers.

"Mm, don't go that way," He commented pointing just behind him, "seems to be a bit of a dead end." He tried to remove some debris, but there was more than he could handle on his own right now.

Hallway -- Outside Room 4E

Louise, who lived in 4D, had just finished dinner--or, what constituted as 'dinner' in this dilapidated place--and was making her way back to her room. As it happened, the redheaded detective sergeant was also Eames's new next-door neighbour, and he was about to find out.

Once she rounded the corner of the circular, pod-like corridor, she noticed two things: one, that it was ungodly hot, and two, that there was a strange, extremely nonplussed looking man sat there in the middle of it all, effectively blocking her path. Stopping just short of him, she unbuttoned her blazer and the first few of the oxford shirt beneath it and fanned herself a bit, not speaking, just observing Eames with a withering glance.

"Nice to see you getting comfortable, it's hardly Ibiza in here," she deadpanned, her voice speaking the somewhat clipped syllables of the Queen's English. "...It's more suited to Hades, really."

Giving him a once-over, she snorted. "And you're in my way."

"You've not been in it yet?" she countered, both brows sweeping upwards. As the investigative type, Louise had already sussed the place out before going out in search of her weaponry. "There's not much to it, it's more or less a dormitory room, only 100 times more futuristic on the inside. Rather sterile, I'd hasten to add."

And then the redhead remembered possibly the most important thing of all--a proper introduction.

"Detective Sergeant Louise Gardiner, Scotland Yard," she murmured stiffly, proferring her hand to the battleship. "Apologies, Ms Yamato. I forgot myself earlier."

"Oh you'd be surprised. It all depends on the species make-up you see. There's this one alien on this little planet I once visited and all their food is just sour. Completely and totally sour. At least it is to me. For them, it's... well I don't actually know how it is. But they love it."

He doesn't look thrilled with it, but he's also not wasting it, which tells Martha a lot about him. "Better or worse than rat? Or are you one of the lucky people who never had to scrounge for rodents?" Because she had. Walked across the world and

She nodded in response to his statement and moved to a replicator a few over from him. "What black Earth teas do you have?" she asked the computer, but the list became too long to deal with. "Black teas originating in England?" Shorter... but still longer. She picked one at random. The resulting tea looked tea-like and she took a cautious sip, wrinkling her nose while swallowing.

"Extra bitter and I doubt I'll get sugar." But she'd drink it.

"I came here first of all-my equipment is only in my trust." Yamato squared her jaw and for an instant managed to project an aura other than a confused young woman-there was something fierce in her eyes. "If they think they can hold me away from that, they have another thing coming." The room's condition really wasn't that important to her-not when she was so far from water and so near but so far from her equipment.

Ahhh, time for her introduction. Yamato bowed and then straightened up again to take the hand. "Imperial Japanese Battleship Yamato, nameship of the Yamato-class. I could show you my cannons were they not..." Her eyes flicked back in the direction of the armory. "Well, I can perhaps demonstrate some of my other talents for you, detective sergeant."

"Rat ain't so bad. Better than roaches." Things had gotten pretty desperate in the HYDRA labour camp, the first time he'd been captured along with the other men who had eventually become the Howling Commandos. Rat had been a delicacy to be fought over.

Hell, there had been times out in the field, in the harsh winters, where he'd have given just about anything for a stringy rat to eat. No, wasting food wasn't something Bucky would ever willingly do.

Her comments made him curious, more than just wondering why she'd had to eat rat. "One little planet? Are you part of the local crew?" He'd assumed from her clothing and her uncertainty about the food machines that she was a transplant like him. Then again, he supposed they probably didn't wear their uniforms on their time off, and with the systems as damaged as they were, anyone would be uncertain of the machines.

At least he wasn't pulling away. Peggy wanted to maintain contact as long as possible, even if it wasn't exactly the most appropriate thing she'd ever done - she sensed Bucky needed it.

"Of course," she said without hesitation. "But I don't have to stay, either, if that's easier. If your own room isn't suitable, then where else will you sleep?"
fist_of_hydra: (Uncertain)

[personal profile] fist_of_hydra 2016-07-31 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Were they holding hands? It kinda felt like they were holding hands, and that probably ought to be awkward. Weren't you only supposed to hold hands with your girl? She was Steve girl. Or had been.

God, socializing was so fucking confusing sometimes. It felt like everyone else had been handed a rulebook to memorize, but his had been torn to pieces and he only had bits from here and there.

She'd started the contact, so he decided he wasn't pulling away until she did, or it became problematic. Her hand was so small in his, and he could feel the warmth even through his glove.

"I'll figure something out. It's okay." He shook his head. "I can take care of myself. Been doing it for two years, now, and I'm managing okay. This... this place actually might not be such a bad thing, if even half what they say is true. There's no HYDRA here."

Martha nods. "Roaches are definitely bottom of the barrel. Only took those if I absolutely needed food." And more often than not, she went hungry in efforts to avoid them. Besides, other people needed food to.

She looks confused at his question though. "Local crew? No. I arrived today like many others did. I just... before all this, I knew someone. Met someone really with a space ship. And a time machine. He took me all over the universe."
fist_of_hydra: (Default)

[personal profile] fist_of_hydra 2016-07-31 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Time machine, huh? What I wouldn't give for one of those." To be able to go back, warn himself not to go on that fucking mission, or at least not to get near the Goddamn hole in the train... yeah, that would be worth just about anything.

He had to keep reminding himself that just because someone was a transplant, it didn't mean they couldn't be from a time or place that did have aliens and space travel. Or time travel, as the case may be. "Travelling the universe sounds pretty damn awesome. When are you from, though? You sound British, but with these translator things I guess you could be speaking Martian and I wouldn't be able to tell."

[personal profile] notrosesshadow 2016-07-31 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Martha nods. "It was pretty nice. Though it had it's bad times too. I'm from Great Britain as you discerned. From circa 2009. What about you?"

And no, space and time travel are not regular for her time either. She just found the right alien at the right time.

2009. No chance she'd have heard all the news reports about the Winter Soldier and the bombing in Vienna he was supposedly responsible for. Bucky relaxed a bit more.

"Nothin's all good. Sometimes you need the bad to appreciate the good more, I guess. Though some things are definitely all bad." It was hard to find much of a bright spot in the past seventy years of his life. "Funny how life screws you over that way, huh."

Taking his not-plums, he moved to one of the seating areas, perching on the edge of a bench. He picked one that didn't have a table immediately in front of it, so he wouldn't be closed in and trapped in place, but it also had seats near enough to have a conversation without being in touching distance, if she cared to join him. "Born and raised in Brooklyn, but I was in Berlin when I got taken. 2016."

Martha sat down a table away. Comfortable talking distance without getting in his space even if it is further away than she normally would be to talk to anyone.

"Oh don't I know it. But I've found that even when the bad was really bad, it helped me out in unexpected ways later. So it's hard to discount it even though I really wish some of it had never happened."

She grins then. "Brooklyn! I actually was just living in New York before this." Which reminded her of what had just happened in New York before all this happened. All those people gone. Her face fell and she took a sip of tea to hide it.

Bucky was watching her closely, in case she made any sudden moves, so he didn't miss the change in expression. Something had upset her, maybe reminded her of something - she looked the way he felt, when he got hit with a flashback or a bad memory popping up.

"What?" His attention sharpened, and his brows drew together in concern. Then he kicked himself, because the problem was likely the obvious one. "Did you leave someone behind?"

Unlike him, most people would have ties to others, people they cared about, were worried about, who would be worried about them. Small wonder she'd be upset at the reminder of home.

Axel gave her a funny look. Wait, had she just implied she was a ship? No, he must have heard wrong.

He laughed then, shaking his head.

"Well, I can say for sure I've never seen anybody quite like you before," he said, folding his arms across his chest. "I didn't recognize anybody, either. I'm kind of used to visiting new places, though I gotta say, this place is full'a firsts." He rapped his knuckles against the nearest wall. "I haven't spent much time in spaceships before, and the ones where I come from don't look anything like this."

Axel snorted.

"You make a compelling argument," he said. "I never thought about pizza being a complicated thing, but when you get down to the nitty-gritty..." He blew out a sigh and leaned against the wall. "Looks like I may have to find a new favorite flavor of ice cream, though."

He watched her a moment, grinning as she pulled that flask out again.

"From what I hear, real booze is a rare thing in this day and age," he said, a grain of warning in his tone. "Might wanna conserve what you've got for when the crap really hits the fan."

"All right, all right, Disaché!" he echoes, rolling his eyes, though really, he can't find fault with a guy who just wants people to remember his name. He gives him a nonplussed look when he waves his shoe at him, then folds his arms and shakes his head. "You know, you're never gonna make any friends brandishing boots at them," he says with a roll of his eyes. "Seems like we're all gonna be stuck with one another for a while, so we might as well get to know each other, you know?"

Sheesh, and he thought Vexen was grouchy and antisocial...

Axel wasn't sure what he'd been expecting, but the man who stepped through the doorway was entirely not it. He looked young, maybe around the same age as he was, with brown hair and a big grin on his face. He seemed to be taking this whole relocation thing very well.

"Yo, roommie," Axel said casually, lifting a hand in greeting. "I'm Axel." He sat up then, having to hunch a little to avoid bumping his head against the ceiling, but he'd be damned if he was sleeping on a bed underneath another one. He ventured a tolerant sort of smile. "Guess we're gonna be bunking together for a while. And you are...?"

This ship is bigger than he'd been expecting. Gummi ships are so small, they're really only meant for a handful of people, but this one... this one can clearly transport like hundreds of people, plus cargo! It isn't quite like anything he's ever seen before.

As he rounds a corner, the lights go out without so much as a head's up, and Axel gives a sigh. Turning to try and find the wall, he stiffens. There's someone else in this hallway with him, he can feel it, and he doesn't like that he can't see them. Now where is that wall...?

He jumps, startled, when his elbow collides with something--or... someone, apparently, and he breathes a silent sigh of relief when it turns out the other person in this hallway seems normal and congenial enough.

"Ah--my bad," he says, and relaxes a little when his hand finds the wall. Turning to put his back to it, he holds up one hand and calls a tongue of flame to his fingers. The orange glow lights up his face and illuminates the features of the other man, and he cocks one eyebrow. "Now all we need are some s'mores and a scary story," he says dryly. "Know any?"

"No." No, but how could she put what had happened. "No. I'm fairly certain they're all dead. No one survives a Dalek invasion. Not when their goal is to stop those who could mess up their plans. I'd forgotten. So much happened between that and being brought here."

She takes another sip of tea and coughs.

"I'm sorry. Here you are not really a people person and now I'm talking about topics that no one wants to hear even if they are people persons."

Well if there were any heartless here, they would be climbing over each other to get the nearly 3000 hearts inside her. But they formed a single larger heart, and that heart was her own, the heart of a ship.

"My many companions are also gone-as is the wold I knew. We are in agreement on one point though." She indicated the ship around them with a gesture. "This is...far more the stuff of science-fiction than any spaceship from my world. The spaceships I know are shaped like gumdrops or cans. Not like... well, some people claim to see flying saucers but nothing like this!" She regained some of her composure, but was clearly on edge.

Bucky frowned, confused. He wasn't sure what a Dalek was, but there had only been one invasion of New York that he was aware of. He'd spent a lot of the past two years frantically catching up on the decades of history he'd missed, and the Chitauri invasion had been top of most lists.

"I thought the alien invasion was in 2012? Right after..." He faltered, but forced himself to continue. "Right after they found Captain America in the ice. That was the first time he appeared in public."
