Welcome to the Illyria!

Stardate 58561.8: Day One

Now that you've all got your room assignments and communicators, it's time to explore this ship. Please check out the deck plans to figure out where you're going. You can read about some of the existing crew members you might run into here.

Even those of you who may feel right at home on a spaceship will find that the Illyria is definitely a bit... different. Mostly because she's kind of a wreck right now. Whatever it was that threw the ship all the way out here to wherever we are, it really did a number on the ship itself. There's a lot of damaged areas, and several of the ship's systems have been compromised. You'll find that the replicators don't always work right (I asked for hasperat and I got pok tar!?), the turbolifts are unusually persnickety (I said bridge, not engineering!), and the environmental controls in your quarters may not do as they're told (why is it snowing in Room 4J?). Several corridors are blocked by debris, and more often than not the lights are flickering if they're on at all.

So what will you do? Help clean up the mess in the hallways? Try some bizarre alien food in the mess hall? Try and infiltrate restricted areas to get a peek at the ship's systems? Feel free to make your own top level comment, and treat this as a big mingle. Get to know your new crewmates, explore your new home, make friends or enemies, and whatever you do, don't try the gagh. If you need the captain or the first officer, please let a mod know, but try and stick to threading with your fellow new recruits!

(Don't worry about the entry tags for the moment, they will be added shortly. Before we throw ourselves into missions on alien planets, we wanted everyone to have a chance to get to know one another, so please use this opening log as an opportunity to kick off some CR with crewmates and bunk buddies, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask a mod!)

"The engineers at the Utopia Planitia Shipyards. That's where all Starfleet vessels are built."

The voice coming from a woman with a rushed forehead, standing there with her arms crossed and a frown on her face. She sees your your doing there.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?"

Tony would never admit it, but his first thought on seeing this woman was 'forehead.' Just that one word. Just right there. He was lucky he didn't just blurt it out, frankly. But then again, he was also friends with a bright fuchsia android, so he was used to weird.

"Well, the engineers at Utopia Planitia Shipyards have some 'splainin' to do, Lucy. I mean, even accounting for the fact that this ship has been attacked by something or someone, internal systems like this should be way more resilient."

C'mon, admit it, his fix was effective. Lights were coming back on, all down the busted corridor, one panel at a time.

"As for what I'm doing...well. That's fairly obvious. Nice uniform, by the way. Gonna throw me in the brig for being helpful, officer?"
snapturtle: (You dont say)

He didn't even have to say it, the way he looked at her was enough and earned him a hard stare. Though really he will find there are people with even bigger foreheads than hers running around here. ... And Lucy?

"These ships were not built to be flung across to god knows where. I think the fact that it's still in one piece and keeping you alive, should speak enough for its resilience."

There's an underlying venom in her tone, but she keeps her tongue in check. For now.

"If this was my ship, yes. Luckily for you, it's not. But you have no business messing around in systems you don't even understand. This ship is a lot more complex than it looks."

He paused, blinked at her, and then a slow, almost gentle smile appeared on his lips.

"I just successfully rewired everything and fixed the problem. Lights are on. And if you give me a hot minute, I'll get other things working, too. So what makes you think I don't understand the systems?"
snapturtle: (Tricorder)

Let me know if you're not okay with this.

At that, B'Elanna folded her arms across her chest and waited. 3...2... and there was a sudden beep from the tricorder at her side just before there was a small explosion down the hall. Followed by another, and another, as each of the lighting panels Tony had just fixed spontaneously combusted.

In fact, B'Elanna will be reaching up to try and yank him out of the way as the one above him suddenly erupts in a flurry of sparks. The entire corridor plunged into darkness with the exception of the emergency lights.

She says nothing at first, instead pulling out her tricorder.

"Congratulations. Your 'successful' rewiring just blew out the entire deck."
aes_thetic: (Welp)

hahaha no that's fine

When the first explosion hit, Tony flinched. And when she yanked him out of the way, he was already moving. Moving to protect her, arching his body in front of her as sparks rained down on them, arms up to shield her face and head.

And then it was over, and Tony just stood there, heart racing a mile a minute. Oh, hello anxiety, welcome back, just what was needed.

"...Huh. Well, crap."

... How noble of him. But B'Elanna isn't exactly impressed.

"And now you've added to our work load. Thanks for that."

And with a snap, the tricorder is shut.

"Look, I appreciate you trying to help. But next time get to know the ship and its systems before you start sticking your hands in the nearest access port."

Poor Tony. The universe really had it out for him recently, didn't it?

"...Fine. Are you okay?"

Because yes, he damaged the ship more, but he wanted to make sure she was all right first before pouting about it.

It does seem that way.

"... I'm fine. Even though you've just added to our work load."

So now she'll be trying to move around him and and turns on a hand light so she can see.
