Welcome to the Illyria!

Stardate 58561.8: Day One

Now that you've all got your room assignments and communicators, it's time to explore this ship. Please check out the deck plans to figure out where you're going. You can read about some of the existing crew members you might run into here.

Even those of you who may feel right at home on a spaceship will find that the Illyria is definitely a bit... different. Mostly because she's kind of a wreck right now. Whatever it was that threw the ship all the way out here to wherever we are, it really did a number on the ship itself. There's a lot of damaged areas, and several of the ship's systems have been compromised. You'll find that the replicators don't always work right (I asked for hasperat and I got pok tar!?), the turbolifts are unusually persnickety (I said bridge, not engineering!), and the environmental controls in your quarters may not do as they're told (why is it snowing in Room 4J?). Several corridors are blocked by debris, and more often than not the lights are flickering if they're on at all.

So what will you do? Help clean up the mess in the hallways? Try some bizarre alien food in the mess hall? Try and infiltrate restricted areas to get a peek at the ship's systems? Feel free to make your own top level comment, and treat this as a big mingle. Get to know your new crewmates, explore your new home, make friends or enemies, and whatever you do, don't try the gagh. If you need the captain or the first officer, please let a mod know, but try and stick to threading with your fellow new recruits!

(Don't worry about the entry tags for the moment, they will be added shortly. Before we throw ourselves into missions on alien planets, we wanted everyone to have a chance to get to know one another, so please use this opening log as an opportunity to kick off some CR with crewmates and bunk buddies, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask a mod!)

B'Elanna huffed a bit once the crew member scurried away, leaving her to her work again. The woman turning back to the open panel with a tool that had a red light on the end.

Though she pauses as someone else decides to walk up to her. Expecting it to be another crew member, or the same one before, she shoots Peggy a glare. ... Only to realize that its... not a crew member. And her expression instantly softens up, especially after the introduction.

"... B'Elanna Torres."

Peggy nodded politely at the introduction. "A pleasure to meet you, uh--" She paused, peering at the insignia on B'Elanna's collar. The various colours and insignia were still somewhat beyond her, and she didn't dare guess. She'd been around far too many military people to chance over- or under-estimating someone's rank. "I'm sorry, miss Torres, but what is your rank and position?" she finally settled on, arching a brow and smiling self-deprecatingly. "I'm rather new here, as you probably guessed."

She catches the look at her collar and Peggy will notice that B'Elanna doesn't have the same pips that the other Starfleet officers are wearing. That's going to take some explaining.

"Lietenant, Junior Grade. And actually, I'm new here too. This... isn't my ship."

That's definitely part of why she's having some uncertainty about B'Elanna's rank. "Lieutenant, then," she says agreeably, inclining her head, then she sobers. "You're new as well? But you do seem like you belong here."

"It's the uniform, and the fact that I know my way around a ship." She sighs a little, relaxing a bit.

"I'm from the USS Voyager, and according to the stardate, several years ago too."
nobettycarver: (What?)

Peggy blinked, startled. "Does this sort of thing happen a lot in Starfleet?"
snapturtle: (You dont say)

"Honestly? A lot of strange things happen."

Maybe not this particular thing before, but...

"Time travel, unknown entities kidnapping you, being flung thousands of light years from home. You name it, it's probably happened. In space you come to expect the unexpected."

Peggy cocked her head, listening to this litany of weirdness. "On Earth, too, apparently," she said with a smile. "I'm here, aren't I?"

"You wouldn't be the first human I've met from another time, actually." And she's clearly not joking either. "Amelia Earhart ring any bells?"

From Peggy's perspective, Earhart only disappeared a few years ago. She started. "Wait...is that what happened to her? She came to the future?"

Did that mean that Peggy also had vanished from her own time, and would eventually be declared dead? That was an unexpectedly sad thought.

"More like she was abducted by aliens and put into cryostasis for a few thousand years."

Not exactly brought into the future, but close enough.

Peggy winced. "Well, it's nice to know what happened. You mean there were aliens on Earth at that time?" At her time? That was disturbing.

"Seems that way. They kidnapped several people and brought them back to the Delta Quadrant as slaves. Good news is, they managed to overthrow them and created their own settlement on a habitable planet."
