Welcome to the Illyria!
Now that you've all got your room assignments and communicators, it's time to explore this ship. Please check out the deck plans to figure out where you're going. You can read about some of the existing crew members you might run into here.
Even those of you who may feel right at home on a spaceship will find that the Illyria is definitely a bit... different. Mostly because she's kind of a wreck right now. Whatever it was that threw the ship all the way out here to wherever we are, it really did a number on the ship itself. There's a lot of damaged areas, and several of the ship's systems have been compromised. You'll find that the replicators don't always work right (I asked for hasperat and I got pok tar!?), the turbolifts are unusually persnickety (I said bridge, not engineering!), and the environmental controls in your quarters may not do as they're told (why is it snowing in Room 4J?). Several corridors are blocked by debris, and more often than not the lights are flickering if they're on at all.
So what will you do? Help clean up the mess in the hallways? Try some bizarre alien food in the mess hall? Try and infiltrate restricted areas to get a peek at the ship's systems? Feel free to make your own top level comment, and treat this as a big mingle. Get to know your new crewmates, explore your new home, make friends or enemies, and whatever you do, don't try the gagh. If you need the captain or the first officer, please let a mod know, but try and stick to threading with your fellow new recruits!
(Don't worry about the entry tags for the moment, they will be added shortly. Before we throw ourselves into missions on alien planets, we wanted everyone to have a chance to get to know one another, so please use this opening log as an opportunity to kick off some CR with crewmates and bunk buddies, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask a mod!)
Re: Hiya, roomie! :)
"Are we going to be rooming together? That is good to hear-I, Yamato, will do my best to be a good roommate. I have not had many, but it will be good to have someone around." That would do for a introduction she hoped. As for the other thing..."I do not think the crew will be of much use however. There is only the one ensign, and she is very stubborn."
no subject
"The crew? Useless. And the ensign? Haven't met her, but if she's anything like the 'nurse' in sick bay when I arrived, useless AND evasive." The redhead never minced words.
no subject
That did arouse Yamato to a brief panic as she glanced over her shoulder at the ensign in question and then back at Louise. "Should you really say such things in public? I know my knowledge of British manners is badly out of date, but that seems very...strong."
no subject
And, as to her last comment, DS Gardiner was never one to observe political correctness. She shot from the hip and called things as they were; or, at least, how they seemed to her. Shrugging again, the redhead appeared noncommittal. "I say what I mean, and I mean what I say." Simple as, the copper reasoned, her posturing defiant as she regarded the ensign, chin elevated slightly as said ensign gave her a sarky look.
no subject
Still, that left things in an awkward position. "I do not think that insults will resolve this however. And since I do not want to hurt anyone, perhaps we should investigate the room we have been offered?"
no subject
And then the redhead remembered possibly the most important thing of all--a proper introduction.
"Detective Sergeant Louise Gardiner, Scotland Yard," she murmured stiffly, proferring her hand to the battleship. "Apologies, Ms Yamato. I forgot myself earlier."
no subject
Ahhh, time for her introduction. Yamato bowed and then straightened up again to take the hand. "Imperial Japanese Battleship Yamato, nameship of the Yamato-class. I could show you my cannons were they not..." Her eyes flicked back in the direction of the armory. "Well, I can perhaps demonstrate some of my other talents for you, detective sergeant."
no subject
However, when the younger woman revealed her identity, Louise's brows swept up. "A...battleship. You." She shook her head, utterly confused. "But...you're--human?" What was the girl playing at?
no subject
Which was all well and good, but meant that Louise was rooming with an unstoppable, if fluffy, juggernaut.
no subject
A 'fluffy juggernaut', the human battleship was, and the raven-haired woman had barely uttered the last syllable before Louise's hand came up in mock surrender. "No worries, I've absolutely no plans to knock you for twelve any time soon; especially as we're to be sharing quarters." The first genuinely warm smile spread across her lips, this time reaching her eyes, the formal pretences gone, if only for a few moments.
"And if you like tea, we'll get on like a house on fire."
no subject
Well it would have to be accurate enough. "I am sure we will have a pleasant enough time together."
no subject
A nod. "Indeed. I hope so." A beat. "What time do you take supper? I could meet you at the canteen at 18:00. You could show me what's palatable out of that 'replicator' nonsense."
