Welcome to the Illyria!

Stardate 58561.8: Day One

Now that you've all got your room assignments and communicators, it's time to explore this ship. Please check out the deck plans to figure out where you're going. You can read about some of the existing crew members you might run into here.

Even those of you who may feel right at home on a spaceship will find that the Illyria is definitely a bit... different. Mostly because she's kind of a wreck right now. Whatever it was that threw the ship all the way out here to wherever we are, it really did a number on the ship itself. There's a lot of damaged areas, and several of the ship's systems have been compromised. You'll find that the replicators don't always work right (I asked for hasperat and I got pok tar!?), the turbolifts are unusually persnickety (I said bridge, not engineering!), and the environmental controls in your quarters may not do as they're told (why is it snowing in Room 4J?). Several corridors are blocked by debris, and more often than not the lights are flickering if they're on at all.

So what will you do? Help clean up the mess in the hallways? Try some bizarre alien food in the mess hall? Try and infiltrate restricted areas to get a peek at the ship's systems? Feel free to make your own top level comment, and treat this as a big mingle. Get to know your new crewmates, explore your new home, make friends or enemies, and whatever you do, don't try the gagh. If you need the captain or the first officer, please let a mod know, but try and stick to threading with your fellow new recruits!

(Don't worry about the entry tags for the moment, they will be added shortly. Before we throw ourselves into missions on alien planets, we wanted everyone to have a chance to get to know one another, so please use this opening log as an opportunity to kick off some CR with crewmates and bunk buddies, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask a mod!)

"Still it never hurts to be cautious," Martha replies. But she grins then. "I am. London, 2009, though I've actually spent the last few months in New York. What about you?"

She nods, smiling. What an interesting parallel. "It was 1946 for me. And I've been living in New York the last year as well."

"1946!" Martha exclaims. "During World War II? What made you decide to go to the US?"

Peggy's slightly taken aback by the force of Martha's excitement, but she recovered quickly. "Ah... well, during the war I was assigned to liaise with an American strike force called the Howling Commandos. Now, instead of only being their liaison, I work for the Strategic Scientific Reserve, and their headquarters is in New York."

Martha shakes her head. "I've never heard of them. Perhaps you're from a completely different world than I am?" It could be possible, but the idea seemed odd. "I'm the medical director in NATO." Kind of. UNIT is a department of NATO, though they're of the top secret variety. "I was stationed in New York for medical tests on new technology."

"You mean a different Earth?" Peggy asked, baffled. She brightened. "You're a doctor, then?"

Martha nods. "Parallel universe perhaps. And yes. Trained as a trauma surgeon at Royal Hope Hospital." She is quite proud of that fact.

"Or the same one," Peggy said with a shrug. "The SSR isn't a well-known organization."

She beamed. "I'm glad you're my roommate, Martha. I think we're going to get along famously."

Martha smiled. "Perhaps, but the department I work for in NATO isn't all that well known either, and we're pretty good at finding out other clandestine organizations."

She laughs. "In the end it probably doesn't matter. I think this is a very good beginning for us. So. First things first. My brother says I snore, though I will constantly maintain it's not true. Either way, I hope you're not a light sleeper."

"Are you?" Peggy asked, her eyes narrowing slightly with interest. "What department is that?" It sounded, at least somewhat, like Martha might be more involved in espionage than he would like Peggy to know.

But she laughed, and shrugged. "I'll manage, I expect." She turned towards the sonic shower she'd been puzzling over. "In the meantime, do you have any idea how to work this?"

Martha considered for a moment before answering, "The Unified Intelligence Taskforce. We monitor the world for alien activity and protect against it." Part of her did feel weird discussing this with anyone, but at the same time, what harm would it do. If humans were traveling in space like this, then UNIT wasn't really needed anymore.

She looked over the shower a moment. It shouldn't be all that hard... "Perhaps this one?" she posited as she pushed a button. Water immediately squirted out from the spout, managing to soak her and she laughed. "I'd say it works."
